Who loves to camp? I ask this question often, and I tend to get varied answers. Some people love it because you get away from everything, and enjoy nature. Others tell me they can’t stand the “roughing it”, and the bugs are the worst. There are some they say they could take it or leave it.
What I would say about camping is “don’t knock it until you’ve tried it”. Yes, it is “roughing it” a bit, but getting back to some basics can often help you to appreciate all that you have in your life. Camping gives you the opportunity to get away from the noise of life, which in turn allows time to bond with others, or just get in touch with your own thoughts.
Keith and I have camped since we met. I have to be honest, I did not camp as a kids, nor did I camp with my own kids more than once. I succumbed to theory that I could not distance myself from the luxuries I had at home. What I did know was that I loved being out in nature, and I wanted a simpler life. On the other hand, Keith grew up camping, alone and as a big group with his extended family. He loves the outdoors, and before he met me, his intention was to move to the mountains to enjoy the nature around him.
And Now We Camp:
When Keith and I got together, on a whim one day, we decided to buy a tent, and camp on the beach. What an amazing time that was, and we camped regularly down at Surfside Beach after that. I found I loved camping for so many reasons, but most of all it was peaceful and I could connect with Keith, with nature surrounding us. There was no outside noise of everyday life. Camping now is our lifestyle, though we have a camper, and not tents since we travel full time. Below, you will find the key reasons I think camping should be on everyone’s list of activities to experience.
