When I look in the mirror, I have a vision of what I am right now. I struggle to find a vision of where I want to be, and who I want to be in the future. It’s hard to achieve something if you have no roadmap. So, as I started this journey, I realized how important it was going to be to set some goals. Setting goals allows me to create a better plan of action. Additionally, I felt like I needed to have an all-encompassing vision of what I was working for…..a “vision statement” some would call it.
I spent the last several weeks working on both of these important aspects of my journey. It wasn’t easy, but by using some specific steps I was able to come to a consensus on both my goals and my vision statement. Here are some tips on what will make this process a little easier, and help define for you the direction of this journey. It will give you a better “roadmap” to success.
Setting goals and creating a vision for your health journey is a powerful way to stay motivated and focused. By defining your goals and visualizing your desired outcome, you can take control of your health and well-being. Check out our post on our Health page about the importance of mental and physical wellness before you start this process.
Why is it important to set goals and a vision?
- Motivation: You have to know where you’re headed to be able to get there. Goals provide a sense of purpose and motivation.
- Focus: Staying the course on this journey is hard, at least for me, so a clear vision helps you stay focused on your health objectives.
- Progress Tracking: Goals allow you to track your progress and celebrate your achievements. There are apps you can download that make this process pretty painless. The key is to find what works for you.
- Accountability: Sharing your goals with others can help you stay accountable. I can’t stress enough how hard it is to stay on track if you’re doing it alone….find your people and utilize them. How to Set Effective Goals:

- Be Specific: Instead of a vague goal like “get healthier,” set a specific goal like “lose 10 pounds in 3 months.”
- Be Measurable: Make sure your goals can be tracked and measured.
- Be Achievable: Set realistic goals that you can work towards.
- Be Relevant: Ensure your goals align with your overall health and wellness objectives.
- Be Time-Bound: Set a deadline for each goal to create a sense of urgency.
Creating a Vision Statement:
A vision statement is a powerful tool that can help you visualize your ideal health. Here are some tips for creating a compelling vision statement:
- Use vivid language: Paint a picture of your ideal health.
- Focus on positive emotions: How will you feel when you achieve your goals?
- Make it personal: What does a healthy lifestyle mean to you?
- Keep it concise: A short and sweet vision statement is more impactful.
Example of a Vision Statement:
- “I envision myself as a vibrant and energetic person who enjoys a balanced and healthy lifestyle. I will nourish my body with wholesome foods, engage in regular physical activity, and prioritize my mental and emotional well-being.”
Once you have created your goals and vision statement, you need to find a place to post it so that it’s in the forefront for you every day. Things that are out of site, are out of mind. Maybe it’s your phone screen, or a page posted to your bathroom mirror. Wherever you decide has to be what works best for you!
By setting clear goals and creating a powerful vision, you can embark on a transformative health journey. Remember to celebrate your successes, learn from your setbacks, and stay committed to your goals. Below, I have posted my goals and my vision statement. Let me know if I can support you in any way to create your “roadmap to success”.
