Do you journal? Have you ever wanted to, and weren’t sure how to start? For some, journaling can seem a bit overwhelming. They aren’t writers by nature, and they feel like they are just putting words on a piece of paper. You are probably right, they are just words. BUT….they are your words, and those words can be the key to better mental health.
When I started journaling years ago, I wasn’t sure it made any difference. My therapist at the time told me it would be a good way to get all those feelings that were piled up in my head onto paper. Once they were on paper, then I could reread them, and start to work through each of those feelings and emotions one at a time. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t sure I really believed it would help, but I started. It felt a bit weird at first. It got easier, and the words flowed more as time went on. Today, I find it to be one of the best ways to work through any struggles I’m experiencing.
So, why was it so helpful? And, How should I start? Let’s not look at journaling as a difficult process. Journaling is the simple act of writing down your thoughts and feelings, and it has been practiced for centuries. It’s a powerful tool that can help you manage stress, improve mental health, and gain self-awareness. Whether you’re a seasoned journaler or a complete beginner, there are countless benefits to be gained from this practice.
