I must confess I had never heard of “sheet pan dinners” until a friend of mine I worked with talked about it. She had two young kids, and these were a staple in her house. They were quick, easy to prepare, and the kids loved them. We know that’s no easy feat when talking about young children. Over the years, I have tried many varieties, and flavors. I haven’t found one yet that I don’t like.
Sheet pan dinners have become a popular choice for busy weeknights. These one-pan meals are not only convenient, but also delicious and healthy. With just a few ingredients and minimal prep time, you can enjoy a satisfying meal that’s perfect for the whole family.
Benefits of Sheet Pan Dinners
- Easy to prepare: Sheet pan dinners require minimal prep work, making them ideal for busy weeknights.
- Mess-free cleanup: Cooking everything on one pan means less dishes to wash. I use aluminum foil which makes cleanup even easier.
- Healthy and flavorful: Sheet pan meals can be packed with nutrients and flavor, thanks to the combination of proteins, vegetables, and seasonings.
- Versatile: You can customize your sheet pan dinners to suit your taste preferences and dietary needs.
Tips for Making the Perfect Sheet Pan Dinner
- Preheat your oven: Ensure your oven is preheated to the correct temperature before adding your ingredients.
- Season generously: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different seasonings and herbs to add flavor.
- Arrange ingredients evenly: Spread your ingredients evenly on the pan to ensure even cooking.
- Check for doneness: Cook until the proteins are cooked through and the vegetables are tender-crisp.
Sheet Pan Dinner Ideas
- Chicken and vegetables: Toss chicken breasts with your favorite vegetables (like broccoli, carrots, and potatoes) and a drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice.
- Salmon and roasted vegetables: Place salmon fillets on a sheet pan and surround them with colorful vegetables like asparagus, zucchini, and cherry tomatoes.
- Shrimp scampi: Toss shrimp with garlic, butter, and lemon juice, then add your favorite vegetables like broccoli or asparagus.
- Vegetarian fajitas: Create a vegetarian fiesta by roasting bell peppers, onions, and your favorite vegetables on a sheet pan. Serve with warm tortillas and your favorite toppings.
My Favorite
Keith and I are trying to eat a bit healthier these days. We tend to eat more chicken and fish, and limit the amount of red meat in our diet. My current favorite sheet pan dinner is chicken, new red potatoes, and snow peas.
Keith and I cook for two, so you will need to adjust the amount of each ingredient based on your families size. Here’s a quick recipe:
Ingredients
- 2 Boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 10 Small red potatoes
- 1 Small Bag Snow Peas
- Olive Oil
- Seasoning of Choice ( Mine is a garlic & onion mix with black pepper)
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Chop potatoes into bite sized pieces
- Place chicken, potatoes, and snow peas onto sheet pan
- Brush or spray olive oil on ingredients
- Sprinkle seasoning onto ingredients
- Place in oven for 25-35 minutes or until internal chicken temperature is 165 degrees
- Remove from oven and enjoy!
Sheet pan dinners are a fantastic way to enjoy a delicious and healthy meal without spending hours in the kitchen. Give them a try and see why they’ve become so popular!
